Family History
Introduction
It is
my intention to write about our history, based on the information given to
me by family members than are still alive that were closest to the
individuals of whom I'm writing about. As in any type of history, versions
of the facts vary depending who herd them, and how accurate were the stories
told, so it is up to everyone responsibility to make sure that we get the
facts right.
I
will make changes to the accounts of these stories, once I hear other
versions and check against them, for truth.
It seems that Don Jose Salvat Serra and Mercedes Gimenez De los Rios, met
for the first time in 1914 in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, while abuelita
Mercedes(Merchita) went there to marry another gentleman, whom she was
promised to, but while all the arrangements for the wedding were made, the
groom died.
Don Jose Salvat Serra, who was one of the best men to that
wedding, fell in love with the bride (Merchita Gimenez) and after a
customary period of courting, asked
for her hand in matrimony. They were married in January of 1915 and started
this wonderful family, that we are today.
Because of the importance of keeping the family together, and
up to date for the benefit of those to come, I have created this web page,
to maintain The Salvat-Gimenez Family and its descendants informed about any
events past and future.
With the help of all family members, I will continue any
developments about the family.

The Following Years
Born in Reus, in the province of Cataluņa about 1875.Approximately at the
age of 20-25 Jose Salvat Serra traveled to Venezuela S.A, for an
international show for machineries. His product was an electric power plant,
that could generate electricity for a whole city.
He was invited to come to Barranquilla, Colombia, by the governor, to
install a power plant for the city, which would have been the inauguration
of electric service for that region, and as a result of that, he also
installed several other plants in the neighboring towns.
He liked the area so much that he decided to move to Barranquilla.
After installing all those electric plants, the need for electrical supplies
grew, so he opened a store for electric components and accessories in the
Atlantic coast of Colombia, which would supply the area for many years to
come. Even today the name Salvat carries a tradition of hard working people,
ingenuity, honesty & importance in the city of Barranquilla, or where ever
they have traveled to.
Some of the family members have spread throughout United States, and
planted roots in Florida, Wisconsin, Virginia, Georgia, Nevada, and New
Mexico.
