Born in Reus, in the province of Cataluņa about
1875.Approximately at the age of 20-25 Jose Salvat Serra traveled to
Venezuela S.A, for an international show for machineries. His
product was an electric power plant, that could generate electricity
for a whole city.
He was invited to come to Barranquilla, Colombia, by
the governor, to install a power plant for the city, which would
have been the inauguration of electric service for that region, and
as a result of that, he also installed several other plants in the
neighboring towns.
He liked the area so much that he decided to move to
Barranquilla.
After installing all those electric plants, the need
for electrical supplies grew, so he opened a store for electric
components and accessories in the Atlantic coast of Colombia, which
would supply the area for many years to come. Even today the name
Salvat carries a tradition of hard working people, ingenuity,
honesty & importance in the city of Barranquilla, or where ever they
have traveled to.
Some of the family members have spread throughout
United States, and planted roots in Florida, Wisconsin, Virginia,
Georgia, Nevada, and New Mexico.
